The Cable Directory interviews Robert Springs, President of Draka’s Division for Marine, Oil and Gas International.
Robert “Bob” Springs is the President of Draka’s Division for Marine, Oil and Gas International, located in Houston, Texas. This division is unique in the wire and cable industry since its total focus is to provide cable solutions only for the marine and offshore industry. The division provides global manufacturing and project coordination with local support to meet the needs of a multi-national
customer base.
Recently, Springs was named to the board of directors of Oakwell Engineering Ltd. located in Singapore. Prior to joining Draka, Springs held several positions with The Dow Chemical Company, most recently as the European Managing Director of Cargill Dow BV, a joint venture of Cargill and Dow located in Amsterdam. During this assignment, Springs was named to the board of directors of the International Biodegradable Polymers Association. During his tenure with Dow, which began in 1973, Springs worked in technical and management levels for the technical service and development departments of various thermoplastics, including polystyrene, polyethylene, fabricated products and engineering thermoplastics.
In an earlier assignment, Springs has worked in Japan and Hong Kong serving as the Pacific Area Business Development Manager for Dow’s thermoplastic businesses in Asia. Springs received a bachelor’s from Texas A&M University and a master’s in business administration from Xavier University.
