Corning Cable Systems Continues Innovation in its Plug & PlayT Universal Systems Product Portfolio
Hickory, North Carolina, January 10, 2008 - HICKORY, N.C. Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, announces continued innovation of its Plug & Play™ Universal Systems product line. Plug & Play Universal Systems are preterminated optical fiber cabling systems that dramatically streamline the process of deploying an optical network in data center environments. Featuring a standard insertion loss of 0.75 dB on modules and harnesses, the system provides the best standard insertion loss in the industry and allows customers to better meet the strict budgets demanded by today’s systems. The low-loss system, consisting of modules, trunks and extender trunks, harnesses and jumpers, features MTP® to LC Connector and MTP to SC Connector modules and harnesses with a maximum loss of 0.5 dB. The low loss system provides architecture design flexibility while providing additional loss margin, making the solution ideal for customers designing systems with data rates of 10 Gb/s and beyond.
Plug and Play Universal Systems feature an innovative wiring scheme that eliminates polarity concerns in the field through a patented manufacturing process offered only by Corning Cable Systems. Modules and harnesses are wired the same to simplify system assembly. Just one type of module and one type of trunk are needed. There are no installation headaches associated with A-B patch cords or A-B modules.
Corning Cable Systems is introducing the Plug & Play Universal Systems 96-Fiber Shelf, a value-added complement to the system. An angled panel design allows for 96-fiber density in a 1U shelf, with LC duplex connectors across the front and eight MTP® Connectors across the back of the shelf. A sliding drawer provides frontal access to the shelf, and a tilt feature and a port identification system provide clear line-of-sight to all connectors.
Using modules provides adaptability for the changing data center environment. The Plug & Play Universal Systems Integrated Trunk Module is a preterminated 12-fiber MTP Connector trunk assembly integrated into a Plug & Play Universal Systems module. The integrated trunk module provides a quick and convenient method for deploying and/or redeploying optical connectivity in 1U and 4U housings, and is ideal for small or large data centers. The Plug & Play Universal Systems Media Converter Module provides connectivity between UTP (unshielded twisted pair) copper cabling and fiber optic cabling. Utilization of the Media Converter Modules allows one to reap all the benefits of installing a Plug & Play Universal Systems MTP Connector-based fiber cabling system, while at the same time leveraging existing copper port-based electronics.
Corning Cable Systems will be highlighting its Plug & Play Systems product portfolio and other LANscape® Solutions products in its booth (#2017) at the 2008 BICSI Winter Conference, January 14-17 in Orlando, Fla.
