What an historic start to 2010 for the renewable energy industries! Round 3 offshore wind bidders announced; licences granted for wave and tidal developments in the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters; Feed-In Tariffs went live on 1 April; the Renewable Heat Incentive moving forward; new onshore windfarms and biomass plants; hydro in the spotlight; the green light given for the Beauly-Denny power upgrade; news of major UK investments made by major global players...the good news goes on and on!

This news will undoubtedly be emphasised at All-Energy 2010, the UK's
largest renewable energy exhibition and conference being held 19-20 May 2010 at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, Aberdeen, Scotland. In 2009, the show attracted total attendance of 5500 from 60 countries; over 380 exhibiting companies from 14 countries; and 250+ speakers exploring all sources of renewable energy, and stimulating discussion. 

This year the exhibition is 25% larger and the exhibitor list currently
shows 435 exhibiting companies from 16 countries; with registrations coming in thick and fast from home and overseas.

Conference speakers include Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment; David MacKay FRS, Chief Scientific
Advisor to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (tbc); Georg
Adamowitsch, European Coordinator facilitating 'Connections to offshore wind power in Northern Europe'; Dr Eddie O'Connor, Founder and Chief Executive of Mainstream Renewable Power; and Matthew Simmons, Chairman Emeritus of investment bank Simmons and Company International (who addressed the very first All-Energy conference in 2001) - and a further 270+ other speakers, all experts in their fields.

Excitingly, on the opening morning of the two-day show, the Offshore
Valuation Group will present findings of the first full economic valuation
of Britain's offshore renewable resource; while in another session, industry experts will be in conversation with a former Energy Minister, Rt Hon Brian Wilson on preparedness for the Renewable Energy Directive. 

Speakers throughout the two days will be focusing on all sources of
renewable energy including on- and offshore wind; bioenergy in all its
guises; wave and tidal devices and projects; hydropower; hydrogen and fuel cells; carbon capture and storage; microgeneration and onsite renewables for homes and businesses; renewables for communities in general and farmers in particular. 

The "vital" elements such as the grid; finance and funding; power storage; and health and safety will all be covered; and so too will opportunities arising from the synergy with the offshore oil and gas industry - Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group is holding a session urging the offshore oil and gas industry to "grasp the nettle", and UK Trade & Investment, working with Subsea UK, has a session devoted to subsea engineering applications in the renewable energy sector.

Green energy centres will come under the conference spotlight; as will
renewable energy activity in a number of countries including Australia,
Austria, Canada, and Italy - and the six countries represented by the POWER (Pushing Offshore Wind Energy Regions) cluster who are holding their mid-term conference and two other events at All-Energy....... "With over 50 conference sessions taking up more than 76 hours in total, we aim to cover all the pressing issues as well as looking to the opportunities in the near and mid-term future," explains Judith Patten, Project Director with special responsibility for the conference.
