Megger test set analyzes transformer insulation
Wednesday, Jun 17, 2009
With the IDAX-300 test set from Megger, you can assess the condition of the insulation in power transformers, bushings, generators, motors, and cables—a key indicator of future reliability and performance. Using frequency domain spectroscopy, the IDAX-300 insulation diagnostic analyzer measures the capacitance and tan delta/power factor of the insulation between power transformer windings at multiple frequencies. This enables it to evaluate not only the condition of the oil in the transformer, but also the condition of the solid insulation.
Smaller, lighter, and faster than its predecessor the IDAX-206, the IDAX-300 delivers accurate transformer moisture assessment in less than 18 minutes. The self-contained instrument is field-portable and provides USB and LAN communications, allowing remote-controlled testing, data retrieval, and analysis.
The IDAX-300 weighs less than 11 lbs and is capable of operating from a battery or any 50-Hz or 60-Hz supply in the range of 90 V to 265 V. It is equally suitable for use in the laboratory, workshop, or on site. The instrument comes with a set of 30-ft cables, a hard transport case, a soft case for accessories, a software CD, and a user manual.
