Reclamation Awards Contract for Green Springs Powerplant Modifications

Friday, Jun 19, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $2 million contract to Koontz Electric Co. Inc. to replace transformers and modify a switchyard at the 17.29-MW Green Springs hydropower plant, part of the Rogue River Basin Project in Oregon.

Koontz, of Morrilton, Ark., was awarded the contract June 12, 2009, after a BuRec solicitation in 2008. (HydroWorld 12/29/08) The work is to be performed from October-December 2010.

The contractor is to furnish and install a 20-megavolt-ampere power transformer, motor-operated disconnect switch, coupling-capacitor voltage transformers, station-service power transformer, metal-clad switchgear assembly, and phase bus. Work is to include removal of existing transformers at PacifiCorp’s Green Springs substation.

Green Springs began service in 1960 near Ashland, Ore. The plant’s generator was rewound and the switchyard rehabilitated in 1993.

BuRec awarded a $6 million contract to Koontz in March to furnish and install three new transformers and other equipment at Grand Coulee Dam Right Power Plant, part of the 6,809-MW Grand Coulee hydroelectric project. (HydroWorld 3/23/09)
